Located at Aberystwyth University’s Gogerddan Campus, the objective of the Aberystwyth University Innovation and Enterprise Campus’ (AIEC) design was to establish a thriving, commercially-focused facility that increases the capacity to deliver impact-driven collaborative research projects. The research facilitated through the Campus will aid the development of spin-out companies and inward investment, enabling further advancement and growth. The project accommodates some of the University’s leading innovative initiatives, including a seed biobank, bio-refining facilities, multi-use laboratory spaces and a future food centre.

The principal aim of the campus design was to encourage collaboration wherever possible. The AIEC offers a series of spaces, including informal “hub” environments, adaptable meeting rooms and high-tech laboratories. It serves as a collaborative epicentre between numerous in-house scientists and external parties committed to innovation. The space also provides a unique base for research in response to global challenges such as food security, bioenergy, sustainability, and the impacts of climate change.

IBI Group’s design brings five bioscience and agri-tech user groups together in three connected buildings that enable the study of long-term seed storage, raw materials processing, and the development of advanced new food types. Our experts visually referenced the interconnectedness of the farming and manufacturing sectors by utilizing a common aesthetic and solid massing throughout the entire campus.

A shining example of the University’s commitment to deliver world-class research and innovation facilities, the new AIEC enables world-leading research to take place and will play an important role in protecting natural resources now and in the future.

A new generation of minds is reshaping the way we approach education at all levels of learning.
